Personal Property Insurance - Duties After a Loss

Monday, March 30th, 2009

There is a great deal of uncertainty about what happens after one experiences a loss. Most people state that they just don’t know how they are going to recover. For the coverage on the contents of your home or business, the personal property policy outlines what you will need to provide to receive your insurance settlement.

There is a standard verbiage in these policies. Under the Duties After Loss heading, you’ll discover some statements that might surprise you, and of which you need to be aware.

One statement is that they have no duty to provide coverage if you fail to comply with their requirements. The requirements can be performed by you or a representative (an inventory service provider, for example).

You must notify your agent or the insurance company promptly. In the case of theft or loss, you must also notify the police.

If there is an investigation of your claim, you will be expected to cooperate fully. You’ll be required to prepare an inventory of the damaged items, listing the quantity, description, actual cash value and the amount of your loss. Bills, receipts, appraisal forms and any other documents that support your claim will be requested.

A signed, sworn proof of loss will need to be submitted within 60 days after the insurance company’s request. The proof of loss will state the time and cause of the loss, other insurance that may cover the loss, the inventory of the personal property.

Insurance policies vary. Check yours to make sure you understand what will be expected of you when you file a claim.

This shows why it’s so important to have your personal property documented for your home and business prior to a disaster. Can you imagine trying to complete that task without a previously prepared inventory - especially when feeling overwhelmed due to the stress you’d be experiencing?

The Hulk is Back and He’s Credible - A Review of “The Incredible Hulk”

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

BOTTOM LINE: It’s a good, solid, comic book, action Superman action figure that delivers on House of Mystery thrills of the famous big green angry giant, but it’s too fast, noisy and shallow; more time spent on story, pacing and character would have made Phantom of the Opera model as good as its Marvel counterpart, Iron Man.

THE GOOD: Most of us should be familiar with the character of “Hulk” from the old television series, and this film harkens back to the spirit of that era, but most importantly to the original comics. Ang Lee’s character driven version of Hulk didn’t deliver the action that this film does, and it’s spectacular, particularly in the climax when Hulk is fighting against the nasty Abomination. The CG rendering of Hulk is flawless, with some great expressions in his face, and he is truly incredible with the strength, agility and movement that are displayed in numerous sequences throughout the film. Edward Norton fits amicably in to the role of Bruce Banner, the everyman on the run from the US Army who want his power to develop the ultimate weapon. Liv Tyler is also good as love interest Dr Elizabeth Ross. This film moves very quickly, following the chase-movie template with Banner trying to outrun General Ross (William Hurt) and his army so that he can find a cure for his ‘green’ condition. And stealing the show is a cameo by Iron Man Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) in the final scene of the film which is clearly designed to open up a new realm of possible sequel spin-offs.

THE BAD: It’s clear that the filmmakers wanted to go in the opposite direction to Ang Lee’s 2003 version of Hulk, but this is not to the film’s advantage as they go too far, solely delivering Tarzan action figure action spectacular without much depth. The opening sequences which introduce us to Bruce Banner don’t really give us a window in to the plight of his character being on the run; a shame really as Edward Norton’s acting talents are for the most part never utilised because all he’s doing is either running away from bad guys or having the “I miss Elizabeth” look on his face. Without that setup, the rest of the film falls flat from a character perspective. William Hurt is miscast in the role of General Ross; the character looked to demand a toughness which was missing from his performance. The creation of the Abomination, although great for the dramatics because he’s a nasty piece of work that Hulk has to fight, is ultimately a sloppy sequence, put together in a very arbitrary, 2-dimensional way. The character of “Mr Blue” who first tries to help Hulk, but then ends up creating the Abomination willingly, is ludicrous, just like the portrayal of his character. All of this comes together to make a film that is an action spectacular that lacks character, and it’s only really our knowledge of the Hulk character and what he’s fighting against that make the journey worthwhile.

The Growing Rise of Eco-Friendly Board Games

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Board 1933 Goudey Sport Kings can exist for any number of topics, giving players any number of goals to complete to win Nyutty Mads Indian game. There is a growing trend, however, of games which are educational as well as fun and some of these games are ones which can focus on helping children learn the importance of treating the environment well. The environment is a fragile part of this world with the way that industry has forcefully maimed it and everything in our power must be done to give back to the world that we’ve used. Teaching our children about the importance of the environment is just another step along that path and one of the best ways to teach the children something is by getting them to have fun while they are learning it. Eco-friendly board games are just the solution to this problem.

One such game, Let’s Save Our Earth, is a great game designed to teach children about the importance of being green. A game that was designed by a mother of young children, one can rest assured that this is a game that children can easily understand and enjoy. The goal is for the players to work together to save the planet from the destruction which is befalling it. The team-oriented play is a great way for the children to learn some life-building skills as well as enjoy themselves. Players will earn points by learning to recycle, buy organic, planting a garden, and other Eco-friendly activities.

Garden-Opoly is another fun game which can help people of all ages learn a little more about how to encourage a respect for nature. Much like the traditional game of Batgirl players will move around a game board. Instead of buying properties to develop, however, players will buy different plants and cultivate them. They build up their plant collection in clay pots, until they can finally trade up and get a greenhouse for that particular plant. Problems arise though, in the form of aphid infestations, water bills, and outbreaks of dandelions. If you can be the one to successfully manage your garden the longest, however, you can win this fun game!

Yet another Eco-friendly board game which would be great for children is titled A Beautiful Place. Working on the premise that the planet is a beautiful, wonderful place that has been marred by pollution and needless destruction, players work toward cleaning up the Earth and making everything as beautiful as it once was. This game is also a cooperative game, teaching children the benefits of working in a team as well as the importance of taking care of our planet.

It is never too early to begin to teach children the importance of taking care of our world, for they will be the ones to inherit it from us. If they don’t learn how important it is to make sure that the world is taken care of now, they may never learn and by that point, it could be too late for them.

Victor Epand is an expert consultant for board games, chess boards, and dungeons and dragons miniatures. You will find all these things and more if you visit eco-friendly board games, chess boards.

Active Learning Activities - Response Cards

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

As a teacher I am always looking for ways to keep my students actively involved in my lessons. One Star Wars cards my favorite active learning activities is to simply have students use Response Cards. The reason why this is one of my favorite active learning activities is that it is easy to set up and gets ALL Tales from the Crypt students involved in the lesson rather than just the usual few.

Response Cards are simply sheets of paper or card stock that students simultaneously hold up to indicate their response to a the watchmen or prompt asked by the teacher. Response Cards can be blank with the student then writing in the answer or the teacher can provide pre-printed responses with words or pictures that the students choose from. Another option is to simply make the Response Cards different colors with each color representing a different answer.

For example, the teacher gives each student a blank laminated Response Card and a dry erase marker. The teacher then poses a question about the previous day’s content. Students are given a minute or two to think about their answer and write it on their card. The teacher then signals the students to ALL raise their cards at the same time showing their answers.

Here’s another example…To review the three branches of the federal government I give each student three cards each pre-printed with either Legislative, Judicial, or Executive. I then ask a question about one of the branches and signal the students hold up their card to show which branch they think has the particular power. For example, I may say, “Which branch has the power to veto laws?”

What’s great about using Response Cards for active learning activities is not only does this get all student actively involved, but the teacher can also quickly determine which students comprehend the material and can then plan lessons accordingly.

Looking for more active learning activities? Then make sure to visit the Teaching Tips Machine BLOG @ http://www.TeachingTipsMachine.com/blog

Your Comic Book Questions Answered

Friday, March 13th, 2009

You probably took great care of the books and gradually built up your collection into something incredible. It does not matter if it was the Superman series, the Spider-man series or a smaller known series. Those books from years ago now have some The Phantom punch behind them. Comic book collecting is a huge hobby. Even if you just enjoy reading the comics, it is a great way to reconnect to your childhood. If you are unfamiliar with comics, this article will help you out.

When did comic books originate?

There is a lot of debate as to when the first comic book was created. The most recent thought is that the first comic book was “The Adventures of Obadiah Oldbuck” and it was written in 1837 in Europe. Later in 1842 this comic book made its way to New York City. That early comic book would be more accurately described as a graphic novel.

It was 40 pages long and did not have the typical text bubble next to a character. The text was found at the bottom of the panel. The creator Rudolphe Topffer went on to create 7 more graphic novels in different languages. There were comic books that came after that but no one really knows what happened to them. The next comic book that there is proof of was called “The Yellow Kid.”

What is the longest running series or character in a comic book?

Probably the longest running series or character in a comic book would be Haunt of Fear split between Popeye, Mutt and Jeff, and Little Nemo in Slumberland. Following these comics then it would be Dick Tracy, Flash Gordon, Tarzan and the Phantom. It is surprising that comics have been around for more than a hundred years. They have undergone many changes as society has changed. You can find Chatty Cathy in just about any language and are adored worldwide. But two of the biggest selling countries in the comic book world are the United States and Japan.

How do you determine the value of comic books?

The value of comic books depends on several factors. The first is the year it was produced. The second is the storyline or main character. If it is a popular character like Superman, Batman, the Fantastic Four or Spiderman, it will be worth more money because there are more collectors of these popular story arcs. Another factor in the value of a comic book is how many were printed at the time.

If the market was flooded, the value comes down. The final factor is the condition of a comic book. If it has been stored properly and has no marks, smudges or tears, it will be worth more than a copy that has been well read and thumbed through. It is why comic book collectors take their comic books so seriously. For them it is an investment and a love of the story.

Where can I sell my comic books?

Before you start selling off your comic books, you need to know how much they are worth. The Official Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, 32nd Edition will be able to pinpoint what the values of your comic books are depending on their condition. Once you have an idea, you can then either sell them to a fellow comic book collector on Ebay or you can take them to a comic book store and place an ad on their bulletin board. Just remember that buyers will try to get them at the cheapest price they can so be prepared to handle different offers.

A free audio gift on how to draw comics awaits you at Mike Selvon portal site, where you can enrich your knowledge further about comic books.
